How to take a Screenshot on Windows 10. A screenshot is a captured digital image of anything displayed on a monitor, part of a monitor or phone screen.
It can be created on windows 7,8,10, by a combination of various keys on the keyboard.
This article will be focusing on taking screenshot on Windows 10; the most recent OS for PCs by Microsoft.
Taking a screenshot is not a difficult task.
The easiest way to take a screenshot on Windows 10 is through the use of the Print Screen button on the keyboard.
Another way to take Screenshots on Windows 10 is by using the Game Bar.
Snipping tool, a utility app provided by Microsoft also offers such great features that allow users to take custom screenshots, and draw on the images.
For those who do not want to install a third-party app, I will show you different keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot in Windows 10.

WHAT IS A SCREENSHOT?
People call it different names such as; Screen grab, Screen capture, Screen cap etc.
A screenshot is a digital image of the content displayed on a screen.
It is created by taking a picture of the screen. it shows the items displayed on the screen of a device.
Screenshots can be taken using special software installed in a device.
It can also be taken with a combination of keys or buttons on a keyboard.
I am going to show you how you can take a screenshot with keyboard buttons.
HOW TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT ON WINDOWS 10 WITH THE PRINT SCREEN KEY
The use of the Print Screen button to save a copy of an image on your monitor is the fastest method of taking a screenshot on windows 10 .
The print screen button can be branded in any of the following ways; “PrtScn,” “PrtSc” “PrntScrn,” “Print Scr,” and is usually located between F12 and Scroll Lock on desktop keyboards, and in most laptops, it can be seen on the first row on the keyboard, while in some others you have to use the Function key to access it.
The PrtScn Button can be used to take a screenshot of an entire screen and save in Screenshots on your OneDrive cloud drive, not the clipboard. It can also be used to take a screenshot of only one window.

To capture an entire screen in Windows 10 and save automatically with Print Screen, simply Press PrtScn.
This will save the entire screen to the clipboard and can be pasted into any program that shows images, such as MS Word or Paint.
Alternatively, you can take a full-page screenshot with the windows key-print screen shortcut by pressing the Windows key + Print Screen. The screen will dim briefly and the entire screen will be saved as a PNG image in the screenshot folder.
HOW TO SCREENSHOT PART OF THE SCREEN IN WINDOWS 10
If you want to take a screenshot of a portion of your screen, use “Windows + Shift + S”. The screen will appear dim and the mouse cursor will change.
Then click and drag to select the section of the screen to be captured.
The screenshot of the selected area will be copied to your clipboard and can be pasted in various applications.
This shortcut is available in the newest version of Windows 10, known as the Windows 10 Creators Update.
HOW TO TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF AN ACTIVE WINDOW ONLY
To take a screenshot of an active window ensure it is on the foreground and not behind other open windows, then press Alt + Print Screen.
This will automatically save the image of the active window to the clipboard, you will need to open it in an image editor (MS Paint) and Press Ctrl + v to paste. This method does not create a backup of your image in the picture folder.
KEYBOARD SHORTCUT FOR THE PRINT SCREEN WITHOUT PRINT SCREEN BUTTON
The easiest method of taking a screenshot is to use the print screen button, but for a device, without the print screen button, the shortcut Fn Key + Windows logo key + Space Bar can be used to take a screenshot.

The Game bar can be used to take a screenshot. To take a full-screen screenshot follow these steps.
- On your Windows 10 PC, press Windows key + G key to call up the Game bar.
- Tap the Camera icon and your image will be saved.
You can also use the default shortcut via Windows key + Alt + Print Screen. You’ll see a notification that tells you that you have taken the screenshot and it is saved.
The Game Bar generates screenshots in PNG format and saves your screenshot to your Videos/Captures folder. This method does not require copy and paste to any image editor
WINDOWS 10 SCREENSHOT LOCATION
The image from screen grab on windows 10 are saved at different locations depending on the method used. Each methods has its own unique location. Some are saved in clipboard, while others goes straight to the screenshot in picture folder.
To locate the saved image, go to the Pictures library, then navigate to the Picture folder, and select the Screenshots folder.
CONCLUSION
To take a screenshot of an active screen, part of a screen or an entire screen on a Windows 10 desktop or laptop press the Windows key and PrtScn keys at the same time, as stated above.
